Here we have a MaxiTone Bruno semi-hollow electric, made in Japan in the Matsumoku factory. Matsumoku had been a woodworking and furniture building company before transitioning to guitars, so they were uniquely well-equipped for the task when the guitar boom hit. This guitar is a testament to the quality of Matsumoku builds, with a solid and well-made feel that is often missing from ‘60s Japanese guitars. It does, however, have some quirks, largest of which being a slightly twisted neck, though our tech was able to ameliorate the issue and get the action comfortable. Apart from that, the bridge pickup volume pot malfunctions when turned all the way to ten, but dialing it back a hair makes it pass tone just fine. It is also missing its upper horn strap button and tremolo bar, but otherwise it looks great and is in awesome shape! The sound is airyness, but with good body for a pair of singlecoils, and the bridge sound even maintains a nice warmth underneath the bite. With a unique sound and an unbeatable look, this is a prime piece of Japanese vintage artistry, and a fine addition to any enthusiast's or player’s roster! Sorry, no case with this one.
