Here we have a fabulous piece from Rickenbacker, a 1976 4001 fretless bass. This model is an icon in the world of rock bass, having been used by the likes of Lemmy, Geddy Lee, and Cliff Burton, among many others. This beauty retains that iconic image but is also fretless, giving it a unique quality of beautiful glissando. Fretless basses are most often employed in jazz by players like Jaco Pastorius, but they have also been used by pop acts like Tears for Fears. This instrument is super clean, with only a few paint chips on the headstock and some buckle rash on the back. The lacquered fingerboard has been polished up to a nice shine, and the body and hardware look great. The sound is smooth and mellow, and the instrument plays wonderfully. This guitar packs all the beauty and iconicity of the 4001 model with the expanded tonal palette of a fretless neck; don’t pass this gem up! Ships in its original hard-shell case.
