1980 Ibanez Studio ST105
Here we have a fabulous vintage piece from Ibanez, a Studio ST105 complete with its original case. The Ibanez Studio series was one of the brands earliest outings into original design. Fresh off of the the infamous lawsuit with the Norlin Company, Ibanez seems to have learned much from imitating the greats, and it shows in this sadly overlooked series. Studios have the dual humbucking, maple/mahogany bodied power of a Gibson, combined with the long scale, sleek playability of a Fender. This piece is from the middle level of the series in terms of quality, featuring expanded controls and a maple body core for added sustain. The coil taps add single coil possibilities to this versatile ax, and the V2 pickups sound similar to DiMarzio Super Distortions when untapped. The 24-fret neck is slim and comfortable and the action is set just right. Though the sides have sustained heavy scuffing and chipping, the top still looks great and the guitar loses no playability whatsoever. As mentioned above, this guitar’s original case has been preserved, though it does have a set of initials tastefully carved in the top. This piece has been deep cleaned and set-up and is ready to rock!
