1954 Gibson ES-125
Here we have a fine vintage piece from Gibson, a 1954 ES-125 hollowbody electric. This guitar was in rough shape when we received it, with the back coming off and a couple loose braces. Thankfully, our talented in-house luthier was able to remove the back and remove and re-glue both braces. It is now in tip top shape and took the repair very well, with just a bit of irregularity along the reglued seam from years of being unglued, which caused the wood to change shape slightly. On that note, there is also a small hump along the binding between the top and side at the lower bout. The separation was addressed and stabilized by our luthier, but is still visible (pictured). In addition to the reglue, it also received a full clean and set-up. This piece plays great, with a good amount of life left in the frets. The sound is warm and clear, with a really rich tone for chords. The lead sound is great too, but the trebles are just a bit weaker than the basses. It has plenty of finish dings, but nothing too severe. All told, this is a fabulous vintage jazz box with a gorgeous sound; don’t pass it up! Ships in its original chipboard case.
