1966 Silvertone 1442 Bass, w/ OHSC
Here we have a 1966 Silvertone 1442, made in the USA by Danelectro. This bass is a bit of an oddity, coming in at 29 ¾” scale length, making it slightly shorter than your typical short-scale. This guitar playing writer felt very comfortable playing this bass, as the size made it feel more guitar-like. This piece has a very simple layout, with a single lipstick pickup in that sort of middle-neck position you find on some older models, a volume and tone knob, and a selector switch. This switch lets you engage the tone knob, bypass it, and engage a capacitor for a brighter tone. One quirky bit about this bass is the tuning pole for the E string, which is too small for standard E strings, which required us to unwind a standard E and wrap the core to the pole. Other notables include some regular wear to the finish and chrome, a pretty decent chip in the neck finish near the joint, and a slightly shrinking fretboard. Though the bass is missing its logo, it does ship in its original hardshell case! This bass is surprisingly versatile for its simplicity, and it is very easy and fun to play; if you’re after an affordable vintage bass, then check this one out!
