1980s Kawai F2B Bass
Here we have a Kawai F2B bass from the 1980s, inspired by Alembic designs. It was very common practice in the ‘70s and ‘80s for Japanese makers to make similar and sometimes outright copies of American designs, and this bass was modeled after the boutique stylings of Alembic basses. This guitar is also a huge leap in quality from what most think of when they think Kawai guitars, with a 5-piece neck-thru design, robust hardware, and an overall higher standard for wood choices. The wings of the body are made of mahogany sandwiched between two maple veneer pieces, making for a hefty guitar. The rosewood board has a nice rich color, and the U-shaped neck is very comfortable in the hands. The frets have some good life left, and the body and back finishes look great with only a few blemishes on the top, and a decent scuff on the back. The pickups have been replaced with Schallers, but they sound great and provide plenty of tonal colors when paired with the individual coil taps. All told, this is a fine piece that has been set-up and is ready to rock! Ships in a hardshell case.
