1981 Ovation 1651 Legend, Chestnut
This is a 1981 Ovation 1651 Legend acoustic guitar in Chestnut finish. Known for their carbon fiber tops, Ovation is loved by many but endorsed by relatively few in the popular music world, though that number grows all the time. One very famous user, often confused with being an endorsed artist, was John Lennon, who recorded acoustic demos on a Legend 1651 compiled into an album posthumously released under the title “Acoustic”. It is confusing as to how the association became so strong, with many people referring to the model as the 1651 “John Lennon” Legend. The model was a sort of mid-high end of the Ovation line-up, and Lennon could have certainly played any number of high-end, boutique level acoustics instead. Perhaps Lennon heard something in the 1651 that he liked, and that’s easy to believe when you hear this one. This guitar has fabulous projection and great dynamic range, and it's a fine player to boot. The top has a few dings, but they are only really visible in the right light, and the shell has some scuffs too, but it is very rugged and still looks great. Unsurprisingly, Ovation delivers again on the amplified sound, with wonderful clarity and response. John Lennon or not, this guitar is a wonderful vintage player and would make a great performing piece. Ships in its original hard-shell case.
