1973-75 Gibson J-200, Sunburst
Here we have a Gibson J-200 from 1973-75 in sunburst finish. This is guitar has had a bit of a rough life with plenty of battle wounds to show for it, but once you strum the first chord on this beauty, you can see why its previous owners kept it going. After a cleaning and set-up from our in-house luthier, this guitar has a super comfortable action and a big, clear sound. The trebles from this guitar are nice and bright, but not too chime-y, and the basses have a nice understated balance to them, making for a very well rounded sound. With excellent playability all the way to the 12th fret, this guitar is perfect for folk, country, or any other chordal genre. Some of those aforementioned battle wounds include some wood cracks in the sides that have been repaired with glue and wooden cleats. Whoever made this repairs did a fine job, and none of the cracks appear to be threatening to open up. There are also plenty of finish scratches, dents, and scuffs, and it also appears that the bridge had been reglued in the past. The most noticeable issue to a player’s hands may be that the 17th fret is fairly high and causes muting past the 12th fret, but given that this guitar has no cutaway, it will likely not be an issue for most. Some additions to the instrument include a set of Kluson style tuners and a hybrid mic/piezo amplification system. There is also a hole in the lower side from an input jack that had been removed. All in all, this worn torn jumbo may be a bit of an ugly duckling, but it sings like a songbird; don’t pass this affordable player up! Ships in a hard-shell case.
