1959 Gibson Les Paul Special, TV Yellow
This is a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Special in classic TV Yellow finish. This piece is from the first year that Gibson introduced double cutaways in this model, but just before they changed the model name to SG Special in late ‘59. All of its parts are original, including the single line Kluson Deluxe tuners, the pair of soapbar P-90s, and all knobs and switches. The neck is the fat ‘50s profile and feels quite substantial in the hands; you can really grab a hold of this neck! The frets feel good despite some wear, and the action is currently set medium-low. The sound from the P-90s is very classic and warm, though the bridge pickup could stand to come up a bit. The cosmetic condition is great for its age, with some scuffs here and there, but no major abrasions save for one. The neck has sustained a repair at the heel, and it was done a long time ago. The repair is very secure but wasn't the best aesthetic job we’ve seen, so our in-house luthier touched it up a bit. To reiterate, the repair is very stable and there is no immediate danger of it opening up again, see the attached pictures. All in all, this is an excellent find for any Gibson player or collector, and a fine vintage piece with a great sound. Ships in its original faux-Alligator chip case.
