This is a Hofner Senator made in Germany in 1960. Hofner was well known as one of the first imported electric guitar and bass brands in the UK, imported by Selmer of London. These instruments were famously used by The Beatles and several other British Invasion groups. The Senator was meant to be the “working man’s Hofner” and as such sat rather low on the hierarchy of archtops in the Hofner catalogue. Despite that, this instrument is made of some rather nice maple with flame veneers on the back and sides. The sound is warm and definitely aged, with a cool vintage jazz tone. This piece does have some checking on the finish, some adhesive residue on the treble-side body, and some corrosion on the tuners, but the neck is straight and it is in otherwise very good condition. Sorry, no case on this one.
