1966 Vox Cougar Semi Hollow Bass
Here we a have a vintage Cougar Bass from Vox, from around 1966. Vox is well known for their amplifiers, but they also had a fairly robust line of guitars and basses, first built in England and later in Italy. This bass is a hollowbody with a pair of single-coil pickups and a laminate maple body. The neck is also maple with rosewood board. The piece is in great aesthetic condition and retains all its original parts save for the pickup cover. It does have its fair share of quirks however, mostly to do with the electronics. The bridge pickup has very low output, and the neck pickup has a normal output but it is having some phasing issues on certain notes at the 7th and 12th frets. There is also some fret buzz, but this is inaudible when it is plugged in. This could be a player’s piece if it is played mostly in the lower positions with the neck pickup, but because it looks so good and retains most of its original parts and its original hardshell case, it may be a better candidate for a collector’s piece.
