Here we have a fabulous piece from Fender, a 1976 Hardtail Stratocaster in a sunburst finish. Every now and then, you’ll find a Strat without its signature tremolo bar, with a more solid body a tighter attack and longer sustain. Some famous guitarists who favored hardtail Strats at one point or another are Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Billy Gibbons, who played the famous “La Grange” solo on one.
This one is fine shape and nearly all original condition, even retaining its “ashtray” bridge cover. It has, unfortunately, had its bridge tone pot, pick-up selector, and at least four of the string-thru ferrules replaced. This guitar was well loved by its previous owners, who wore down the frets a good bit, but there is still some good life left in them. It has some light wear, including a ding on the back of the neck that may be a cigarette burn, but all in all it is pretty clean! It even has some of that fine, uniform checking that gives it a beautiful vintage look.
The sound is very classic Strat but tighter, as mentioned above, and it definitely has sustain for days. The “funk setting” (bridge/middle) is super glassy and really benefits from the tighter body sound. The clean sound is very spikey, and with a little gain this axe will really stand out in a band setting. Despite the fret wear, the neck is silky smooth and fast in the hands, and really lends itself to a funky chord driven style, but it's still at home with a bluesy, soul kinda sound as well. It is a bit hefty for a Strat, coming in at nearly 10 lbs, but if you can get a nice wide strap, you won't regret slinging this killer axe at your next gig! Ships in its original hardshell case.
