1980 Alvarez K. Yairi CY-140 Concert Classical
The Yairi family of luthiers have been building classical guitars since the 1960s with the most famous of the family being Kazuo Yairi, who’s designs helped found Alvarez. Alvarez Yairi instruments were distributed by St. Louis Music and each one was produced under the direction of Kazuo Yairi. This piece is a CY-140 Concert Master built in 1980. This instrument has a nice, dark cedar top, a rosewood back and sides, and an ebony fretboard. The sound is very warm, and well rounded from age, giving this guitar a wonderful voice. The instrument is also a great player, with a smooth and fast action; this guitar is a joy to play. The top is very clean, with only a couple scratches and a bump. The neck is also a little tired, which has caused some slight finish cracks along the neck pocket, but this does not affect the playability of the instrument. It has also sustained damage to one of its braces, though it was expertly repaired by our in-house luthier and is quite stable. Because of the repair, this guitar is available for a great price, and would make a wonderful student guitar. Ships in a hard-shell case.
