This is a 1980 Ibanez Studio ST55 in sunburst finish. The Studio series was made in the wake of the infamous lawsuits against Ibanez for their copies of famous guitar models. Along with the Iceman and Musician series, the Studio guitars represent Ibanez’s first foray into original designs with less than usual features like 24 frets and a 25.5” scale length. This particular version is the sort of second step in terms of quality for the series, featuring a solid mahogany body with a neck-thru design and dedicated volume and tone pots for either pick-up. An excellent early outing from the Japanese guitar powerhouse, this ST55 screams with a warm and chunky sound from the DiMarzio inspired V2 pick-ups and has impressive playability to match. The guitar does suffer from some sizable wear to the bass side horn and the treble side waist, along with some chrome pitting and discoloration on the hardware, but this does nothing to effect the fabulous playability of this overlooked gem. This beauty is ready to rock and ships in a hard-shell case.
