This is a 1981 Alvarez CY116 designed by Kazuo Yairi. These guitars are well known for their favorable cost/quality ratio, and this guitar is no exception. This piece has a solid cedar top and laminate back and sides with a top layer of gorgeous quilted mahogany that gives this guitar a definite visual draw. The fretboard is ebony and the neck is mahogany, and the headstock has a quilted veneer. Not just a pretty face, this guitar plays very smooth and has a wonderfully well-rounded sound, with a bit of added brightness in the trebles, making for a very ideal tone profile. The top has sustained a bit of a beating from previous owners, with dents and dings all over and one crack repair that is very stable. Despite this, the guitar is still a fabulous student instrument giving tone and playability far above its cost; don’t pass it up! Ships in a chip case.
