Here we have a rare and unique piece from Fender Japan, a 1984 Esprit Elite in gorgeous Chrome Red finish. This instrument is part of the short-lived Master Series, the brainchild of Fender’s Dan Smith, who developed the series as an answer to Gibson. The series feature three models, with each one targeting a different Gibson classic. The Esprit was meant to be an answer to the ES-335, with a larger, chambered body. Whether or not it captures the ES sound or not, it is an awesome instrument in its own right. So much so that Robben Ford, of L.A. Express and Yellow Jackets fame, played and loved Esprits. He even had a signature model based on the Esprit made for him by Fender, so take it from him! The Schaller-designed pickups sound gorgeous, with lots of warmth and body, and it even has a coil-tap. It also plays great, with a comfortable neck and nice big frets. This level of the Esprit model also features a fine-tuner tailpiece, which really helps you get precise when tuning. This guitar is also in fabulous cosmetic condition and really polished up nicely, showing off the pearloid treatments and 5-ply binding beautifully. It ships in its original hardshell case, and has recently been set-up by our in-house luthier, so it's a turnkey rocker and a fabulously clean piece of Fender history.
