Here we have a 1989, pre-Joe Pass Epiphone Emperor ins natural finish. The original Epiphone Emperor was released in 1958 and discontinued in 1969, only to be reissued in 1982. The pre-Joe Pass distinction comes from the fact that Epiphone’s current Emperor line is named after legendary jazz guitarist Joe Pass. This piece is very clean, but it does have a fairly obvious quirk; a previous owner added plastic guards on the bass side bout, around the neck pick-up picking surface, and underneath the bridge. These were installed in order to prevent sweat and body oil damage from years of play, which they did well. Unfortunately, they leave behind screw holes and shadows if removed, so we decided to leave them on. Combined with the aftermarket Bigsby, these guards make for a very unique Emperor indeed! Despite the quirks, the guitar is very clean and made of beautiful woods, including a book-matched figured maple back, flamed maple sides, and a spruce top. The guitar has been deep cleaned and set-up by our in-house tech and plays and sounds great! Ships in hard-shell case.
