This is a 1992 EG I from Paul Reed Smith in the now discontinued Classic Red finish. The EG series was introduced in 1990 as PRS’s second bolt-on model. These instruments had flat tops and Strat-style contours with pickguards and multiple choices for pick-up configuration. There were a few series introduced during the nineties, with the last being the EG II, or series II. This piece is a series II, with a PRS standard tremolo and HSH pick-up configuration. The sound of the humbuckers is huge and the guitar even features a coil-tap for sweet single-coil tones. This guitar does have some significant fret wear, but still plays wonderfully and smooth. The frets do cause some buzz, particularly in first position, but with some light distortion this guitar sings unhindered. There are some bumps on the body top and some bucklerash on the back upper horn, but the Classic Red finish still pops against the black pickguard and hardware. Missing whammy bar, ships in a gig bag.
