2010 Gibson Les Paul Studio '50s Tribute, Goldtop
The Goldtop Les Paul is an icon in the series, which is certainly saying something for such a legendary model. The magic combination of mahogany under a maple cap, adorned with a classy gold paint job is perhaps second only to the Burst LPs. This piece harkens back to those gilded beauties, in their original glory with a pair of P-90s, but not totally original, as this tribute is closer to the later ‘50s goldtops. This faithful throwback features a tone-pro bridge, Kluson-style tuners, and a more matte gold finish that won't turn green like the old brass infused paint. More than just a visual piece, this guitar plays and sounds wonderfully, with a nice tone through vintage style distortion. The neck is the full ‘50s style and feels great in the hands. This piece was purchased as a collector’s item, and until recently, had never been played or handled. But with this one we just couldn’t resist and put it in our hands for a minute or two. Despite that, the guitar is still in near-mint condition, and we took the opportunity to set it up just right so it plays better than factory. This is the cleanest one around, and it ships in its original gigbag.
