Have you ever looked at a 1956 Strat and smiled? And then looked at the price tag and scowled? Have you ever enviously read stories of lucky souls discovering barely used gems in a relative’s closet? If so, you are the reason for Fender’s Time Machine series. The wizards in Fender’s custom shop use their powers to replicate the legendary instruments that are sadly out of reach for most of us, using old school techniques and period specific materials to put us regular folk as close as we can get to the “holy grails” we desire. The Closet Classic finish was designed to specifically emulate those one-in-a-million finds, when a vintage guitar is preserved untouched in its case for decades, only to be discovered by some lucky soul. They come from the shop with no play wear, but more subtle marks of age like checking and fading colors, giving these guitars that beautiful aged look but with brand-new playability.
Here we offer one such instrument, a ‘56 Closet Classic Stratocaster in Daphne Blue finish. Made in 2011, this piece hits all the vintage Strat points, with a nice thick neck, Kluson-style tuners, and a smaller headstock. The pickups sound fantastic, with all the twangy Strat character you could desire. The frets have some wear, but they are still nice and high and easy to play. Apart from the factory-added checking and patina, the instrument is in fine condition and has no prior repairs or major cosmetic issues. The guitar is a vintage Strat fan’s dream, and ships in its original hardshell case with its certificate of authenticity and case candy.
