c.1980s Jolana Galaxis, Soviet Era Czechoslovakian
Jolana was a Czechoslovakian guitar manufacturer who gained a bit of fame in the 1960s, when big names like Eric Clapton and George Harrison were said to have used their models. These guitars maintained a decent level of popularity in Europe, but quality began to falter later on, and the company began to focus marketing more on the Eastern bloc. This guitar would have been one that was marketed there; a Galaxis from the 1980s. This piece resembles a vintage Japanese guitar in feel, with a thick neck and thin frets. The action is fairly comfortable and the guitar is easy to play. The pickups sound decent and neutral, but there seems to be some issues with the electronics that are holding them back. The neck pickup is nice and loud, but the bridge is very quiet and the tone knob doesn’t seem to be effecting it much. The pickup selector is also a bit quirky; we replaced the knob but it does not roll backward, and in order to change pickups you have to roll it all the way forward 360 degrees to get back around. The tone knob for the bridge pickup has also been replaced, along with the nut, and it is missing its whammy bar. Aside from these issues and some bumps and dings, this guitar is in fine condition, and would make a great addition to any quirky guitar collection. Sorry, no case with this one.
