Steve Morse, founding member of Dixie Dregs and current guitarist of Deep Purple, is one of Ernie Ball Music Man’s longest endorsees. Prior to his relationship with Music Man, Steve Morse was known to have played a four pick-up “frankentele”, a guitar that Music Man based Morse’s first signature on. Then, after 20 years of playing Music Man instruments, the company released the Y2D to celebrate the anniversary. This instrument features a figured maple top over a poplar body, which gives the instrument a brighter tone. The neck is maple with a 22 fret rosewood fretboard, specifically requested by Morse for purposes of pick-up placement. The pick-ups are DiMarzio’s Steve Morse signature pick-ups, with an HSH configuration. The placement of the recessed middle single-coil is designed to clean up and quiet down a distorted bridge sound. Other features include locking tuners, a clear pick-guard, and a gorgeous Purple Sunset finish. This particular piece is incredibly clean with hardly a scratch to speak of, the only real blemish is a shadow in the back finish left from a sticker. It also still has its original hard-shell case and case candy.
