Here we have a mid-80s MIJ Precision Bass from Fender Japan. In the early ‘80s, Fender faced a dwindling market for economy instruments in the face of increasingly high-quality knock offs from Japan. Fender’s answer to that problem was to put their name on the knock-offs by opening Fender Japan and producing quality vintage reissues manufactured in Japan. These instruments became popular and retain a reputation for a positive price-to-quality ratio, making them desirable pieces for players looking for a low priced vintage vibe. This bass is from 1984-87 and has had some customization, including an aftermarket stereo input jack, a Bass Lines pick-up, and locking strap buttons. The maple fretboard is fairly clean with only a few nicks and feels nice to the hand. The sound is big and snappy with plenty of low end as well. It must have been well loved by it previous owner, as it shows plenty of finish chips from use, but it still looks sharp after being cleaned and set-up by our talented technician. If you are looking for a vintage bass at a great price then look no further! Ships in a hard-shell case.
