This is a Fender Mustang with a striking competition red finish with an orange racing stripe. These unique instruments sought to combine the aesthetic draw of race cars with a smaller instrument in the hopes of appealing to a younger crowd. The last guitar designed by Leo Fender while at the company, the Mustang has been a popular instrument for years, being utilized by the likes of Kurt Cobain and Thurston Moore. With some significant checking on the back and some scuffs of the neck finish, this guitar is still in very good condition. The sound is every bit of dirty vintage Fender and the neck feels substantial in the hands. This guitar has also been pot-dated to 1972, despite its misleading serial number on the neck plate. (Pot ID: 304-7218) The guitar ships in its original hard-shell case.
