Fender NOS '64 Jazz Bass Custom Shop, Worn Sunburst
This is a Fender Custom Shop ‘64 Jazz Bass with NOS treatment, made in 2002. The Jazz Bass was conceived of as a counterpart to the Jazzmaster, with an offset body that it borrowed from the model. Fender gave this bass a thinner neck, a feature they figured would appeal to jazz bassists, and pair of brighter single coil pick-ups to compete with Rickenbacker’s basses. While it was embraced by jazz giants like Jaco Pastorius, it also proved to be wildly popular with rock musicians, seen in the hands of legends like Geddy Lee and John Paul Jones. This piece is a faithful reproduction of the bass from 1964, just 4 years after its original production year. This year was after the stack pots and felt mutes but before the bound neck. The NOS treatment replicates the checking and finish transformations, known to happen after years of aging, straight from the factory. The only non-original mar on this bass is a decent sized scuff on the bottom side near the input jack. Aside from that, the neck is straight and the frets are in great shape. This piece is from the collection of Yes’ Jon Davison, and ships in its original hard-shell case with its Custom Shop certificate.
