In 1983, Fender released a radically different kind of Strat, the Stratocaster Elite. This instrument was designed to combine classic Strat aesthetic and playability with active electronics and an updated tremolo system. Strat players will immediately notice the lack of the classic 5-way pick-up selector in favor of a push-button system. Also noticeably featured is the "drop-in" style bridge and covered Alnico pick-ups. Unseen features include a treble/bass expander, a mid-range booster, and dummy coils for hum cancellation. All this amounts to a more "humbucker-like" sound. This sound was put to great use by King's X guitarist Ty Tabor who used his Elite on the bands first four albums. This particular piece is in excellent condition with a straight neck and only some light scratches on the body. The Strat feel is not lost as well; with its maple neck and fret-board and alder body, this instrument still provides classic Fender playability, but with a modern twist.
