In the late 1970s, Leo Fender and George Fullerton were seeking a way to continue Leo’s design vision outside of the Fender brand, and what became of that search was G&L guitars. Leo Fender was now able to refine his vision for his guitars, and did so from 1980 to 1991 when he passed away. What resulted from these years were very precise and uncommon instruments, with Fender only producing 27,000 instruments in his 11 years at G&L.
After Leo Fender’s death, the G&L brand lived on, continuing to work from his visionary designs, producing quality instruments in his legendary name. Here is one such instrument, the Superhawk Jerry Cantrell Signature Model built in 2013. Jerry Cantrell, of Alice in Chains fame, is a well-known player of G&L instruments, with his most recognizable model being the Rampage, a guitar similar to this one but with only a bridge pick-up. This piece is a high-class guitar through and through, with a maple body, maple neck with ebony fretboard, and contrasting black hardware. The pick-ups are Seymour Duncans, with a 59 in the neck and a JB in the bridge. This guitar is in near-mint condition and plays like a hot-rodded Strat. The body feels substantial in the hands and the natural finish on the neck feels fast and sleek. This guitar is a must-have for any Alice in Chains fan or any fan of Leo Fender designs. Ships in its original hard-shell case with certifications from G&L.
