This is a Grabber 3 bass by Gibson in tobacco burst finish from the 1970s. The Grabber basses were introduced in 1973 and feature bolt-on necks and Flying V style headstocks. The G-1 and “Grabber II” basses were both memorable for their single movable humbucking pick-up, but the G-3 features three single-coil pick-ups, giving it a unique sound compared to its predecessors. The G3 has been played by the likes Mike Dirnt of Green Day and John Entwistle of The Who. This particular piece has seen a long life of play and shows the marks of use, with scuffs and nicks in various places on the back and body. The neck also has some slight dents but these do not affect playability, and the neck itself is straight and feels good with nice medium-low action. The three pick-ups provide a very versatile sound, from a nice pop in the bridge to smooth with just a little bite in the neck. Sorry, no case with this one.
