In the early days of Gibson guitars, the company produced the “L” series of acoustic guitars. These early instruments were played by the likes of Robert Johnson, and were true innovations of their time. The L4 was introduced in 1912 and was continually produced into the 1950s. This particular piece is an off-shoot of that model, the L4-C, C of course meaning “cutaway”. This instrument is a great jazz box for any player looking for a vintage acoustic sound. With a set of flatwounds, this guitar will sing with a rich, full voice. It has some reasonable wear for its age, with a minor split in the top of the body, a possibly replaced pickguard, and a sizeable ding on the top near the top f-hole. The tulip-style tuner buttons were also replaced. All told, however, this guitar is in excellent condition and is ready to meet its new owner. Ships in its original hardshell case.
