Kay K103 Vanguard, c.1960s

Kay

31G00756

This is a Kay K103 Vanguard electric guitar from the early ‘60s. Kay made mostly entry to intermediate level guitars at the height of the guitar boom, and this one seems to resemble some of the Japanese imports that were flooding the market at the time. This guitar definitely has the ‘60s vibe in spades, from the odd body and headstock shape to the dedicated volume and tone knobs for each pick-up. On the subject of pick-ups, this guitar still retains its original holographic stickers for that extra dose of flash. The rosewood fretboard also has a natural two-tone look, with the treble side being lighter than the bass. The sound is fairly neutral, but there are some pretty great and raunchy blues sounds hidden in this gem. There are some dings on the body, mostly on the sides, and some light blemishes on the fretboard between the 11th and 14th frets. The instrument is also missing its bridge cover and tremolo bar. Ships in a gigbag.
