Magnatone is a company most associated with amplifiers, having made a splash in the early rock world with endorsers such as Buddy Holly. During the mid ‘50s though, the company decided to try and break into the guitar market, and they did so with the help of guitar authority Paul Bigsby. This piece is one such instrument based on Bigsby’s own design; though not one of his finely crafted and coveted custom models, this guitar is still a unique find. This guitar is a Mark IV, built between 1956-57, with a trapeze tailpiece, two single coil pick-ups, and a neck through with carved body. This guitar plays well and has a surprisingly clean, Strat-like twang to it. It does have quite a bit of cosmetic wear and flaking, and the Kluson tuners have some corrosion, but despite this the guitar is in excellent condition. If you are looking for a truly unique and historic instrument, then don’t pass this guitar up! Ships in a hard-shell case.
