Countless guitar legends recall the same brand guitar as their first ax, and that brand is Silvertone. Silvertone was the proprietary instruments brand of Sears, Robuck, and Company from 1915 to 1972. The company was known for their relatively high quality instruments for entry level prices, and here we have one of those instruments, the 1423 Jupiter. This guitar from c.1961 bears the classic marks of a Silvertone: a light build, gold flake on black finish, and fabulous DeArmond pick-ups. The guitar is in good shape for its age, with some split binding on the 7th and 9th frets, some checking on the neck and body finishes, and some shrinking around the square inlays. Electronically the guitar is pristine, with very clear sound building to a roar with some distortion. A definite collector's piece, this guitar will look great on display or in the hands. Ships in its original soft-shell case.
